Radishes help for breast feeding mothers and Older peoples brains



Doing such things as using the internet and computer and surfing the web plus reading is very good to keep the brain active.
After reading about the UCLA study I went back to my radish soup inquiry and quickly found a blog written by a Malaysian woman who calls herself "MayaKirana," which translates as "Soup Queen."

MayaKirana provides some interesting information about the white radish, along with a simple recipe for white radish soup that calls for one white radish (which looks like a white carrot and can weigh as much as a pound), pork, and red dates. Boil for 10 minutes, simmer for two hours – you're done.

According to MayaKirana, white radish (or daikon) is good for breastfeeding mothers because it prompts lactation. It also happens to be low in calories, but high in nutrition, and is purported to help digestion, soothe sore throats, and relieve asthma symptoms. (But a warning: MayaKirana notes that daikon may neutralize efficacy of herbal tonics and drugs.)

A link to another site revealed additional healthy benefits, noting that daikon is rich source of folic acid, vitamin C, and magnesium – three nutrients that just happen to support brain health and reduce risk of cognitive decline.

So with just a few clicks I learned a little Malaysian, uncovered an interesting detail about lactation, picked up an unusual soup recipe, and, presumably, stimulated areas of my brain that involve complex reasoning and decision-making.

How much fluoride is too much? The amount of fluoride in our drinking water is 1 ppm. And even at 1 ppm, the fluoride has been shown to cause such problems as birth defects, mental retardation, heart and kidney damage, allergies and cancer. Fluoride also decreases the migration rate of white blood cells, which leads to suppression of the immune system.

One report (prepared by the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service for the United States House Subcommittee on the environment and the atmosphere) lists fluoride (along with chlorine, asbestos, nickel and mercury) as a pollutant, dangerous due to its adverse effects on the central nervous system and increased rates of cancer, heart disease, and genetic mutations. According to chemistry indexes, sodium fluoride is more toxic than lead, and only slightly less toxic than arsenic.

Lead is a major offender of the nervous system, causing impairment, especially in children. I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

I've learned that you should pass this on to someone you care about. I just did. Sometimes they just need a little something to make them smile.

The fifth chakra, which is situated in the neckassociated with our soul's spiritual right of free expression. In other words, it's our ability to communicate and create. This energy center, called Vishuddhi in Sanskrit, enables us to discern between right and wrong. This chakra is also linked with playful detachment, diplomacy, and our capacity to relate to others.When our fifth chakra is balanced, we speak our truth, listen with intent and live a creative life. We also display independence, truthfulness, and radiate lightness.
ShhhhWhen this chakra is imbalanced, however, it's a completely different story. And it's not pretty. We display emotions of self-righteousness, secretiveness and evasiveness. If there's too much energy (excess) in the throat, you'll likely talk too much, talk in defense, listen little and have a bad habit of interrupting people. If you're deficient, you likely have a small voice, a fear of speaking, or difficulty putting feelings in words. Incidentally, the throat is associated with the thyroid gland and also the ears. Thus, blockages have as much to do with the capacity to listen as with the capacity to speak.

Blocked energyThere are many things in life that can block the energy from flowing in, out and through this chakra. Lying, secrets and sending mixed messages are big ones, says Linda Darin, a New York-based psychotherapist who works and heals with the chakra system. Constant yelling or authoritative parents can also throw this chakra out of whack.
Throat chakra blockages are common, adds Christina Pope, an energy worker and massage therapist in Scottsdale, Arizona. "We often develop them as a child when were are told to be seen but not heard. 'Sit down and be quiet' is all about stifling this chakra."
As a result, you could develop a host of problems. You can develop a pesky cough or it could be more serious and deep-rooted and affect your thyroid. And of course, since all the chakras are connected, an ailment can manifest in another part of your body altogether.
Ways to find harmonyFortunately there are many ways to harmonize the throat center. Try any (or all!) of the ones listed below:
1. Express yourselfCome on people! Get a hold of a pen and express yourselves. Don't plead the fifth! This chakra requires you to say what you need to say. Storytelling, letter writing, journaling and automatic writing are excellent ways to move energy, says Darin.
Why not make a fearless inventory of every relationship where you feel you don't have a say. Remove self-judgment - this is very important. Ask yourself why you don't speak. Are you a silent partner in a relationship? Does your partner make all the major decisions? Is it worth it? Did your mother have her say? In what ways are you like her?
2. AromatherapyOf the five senses, our sense of smell is the most primitive and most closely associated with our emotions and how our body responds to them. Aromatherapy can help you achieve a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. It can become a part of your daily routine. Essential oils related to the throat center (including geranium, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender and jasmine) will relax yet energize this chakra - thus balancing our emotions linked to it, says Dr. Vivian Valenty, an innovative organic chemist who is originally from the Philippines.3. Chromotherapy Chromotherapy (or color therapy) uses color and light to balance energy in the body, be it physical emotional, spiritual, or mental. Blue is the color associated with the throat. Blue also denotes peace and tranquility. As a general rule, blue has a positive effect on all kinds of pain. You can use gemstones and candles to surround yourself with blue, or you can simply sip water from a blue glass, says Linda Oksman, a spa director and naturaphatic physician in Scottsdale, Arizona. Every time you sip, invision the water healing you. While you're at it, maybe add a little salt to your water and gargle. Better communication is facilitated by doing this.4. Sounding Since the fifth chakra involves the ears and throat, sound is an excellent way to retune your body and regain rhythmic harmony. Consider singing, chanting, and toning to release your voice and clear your throat chakra. Try the "HU Technique," (simply sit quietly and close your eyes... then breathe in deeply and on the exhale, chant HU - pronounced hue). This sound technique is said to establish the frequency that intuition comes in on. It also re-tunes the body. If you have an excessive fifth chakra, explore the interplay between sound and silence. Or consider a silent retreat where you focus inward and practice listening to yourself.
Affirmations are also very powerful, says Darin. Some affirmations she uses in her practice include: "I hear and speak truth," "my voice is necessary," and "I express myself with clear intent." Put post-its around your mirror and repeat them out loud and as often as you'd like.Move your bodyIf you feel that your throat is lodged, try simply loosening your neck and shoulders. Better yet, treat yourself to a massage. Certain poses in yoga can also help open up and balance your fifth chakra. Shoulder stand is good, as is Jhalandara Bandha, also known as throat lock. During this pose, which is really an interior body "lock" used to control the flow of energy, sit in a comfortable cross-legged position. Inhale so the lungs are about two-thirds full, and then hold the breath in. Drop the chin down, and then draw the chin back closer to the chest so the back of the neck does not round. Then place your chin firmly on the chest.
The more free-flowing the energy of this chakra, the more you are able to speak your truth without fearing the consequences. When your fifth chakra is in balance, your will is alligned with the divine.

Sage (Salvia officinalis [Latin]), also known as garden meadow, has a long tradition of culinary and medicinal use. Sage was once used to help preserve meat and over the past 2,000 years or so has been recommended by herbalists to treat just about every known condition, from snakebite to mental illness. In fact, in medieval times the French called the herb toute bonne, which means, "all is well". Modern research has shown that sage, while not a panacea, can help reduce excessive perspiration, digestive problems, sore throats, premenstrual cramps, and high blood sugar. Sage was once recommended by herbalists has to treat fever, a usage that probably arose from sage's ability to reduce perspiration. Modern research has demonstrated that sage reduces perspiration by as much as 50 percent, and Commission E, the group that evaluates the safety and efficacy of
herbs for the German government, approves the use of sage infusions to treat excessive perspiration. Today, there are sage-based natural deodorants sold at most health food stores. Sage is also an active ingredient in some natural mouthwashes because its tannins are thought to help kill the bacteria that cause gingivitis. Sage has traditionally been used to treat canker sores, bleeding gums, sore throat, tonsillitis, and laryngitis. Recent laboratory studies support the use of sage to guard against infection-it has demonstrated an ability to fight against several infection-causing bacteria. Some herbalists and, in Germany physicians, recommend gargling hot sage to soothe pain from sore throat and tonsillitis. Like two other culinary herbs, rosemary and thyme, sage helps guard against depletion of the brain's concentration of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is crucial to proper brain function. A combination of ginkgo biloba, sage, and rosemary may help prevent or slow the development of Alzheimer's. Sage has a long history of use as a treatment for gastrointestinal disorders. It has been shown to help relax muscle spasms in the digestive tract, and is approved by Commission E for treatment of indigestion. One German study has found that drinking a sage infusion reduced blood sugar levels in people with diabetes, but only when they took the infusion on an empty stomach. Sage is available commercially in liquid leaf extract form; the usual dose is 1 teaspoon three times per day. It's easy to grow and dry your own sage. Better yet, this herb is a perennial, and will come back year after year, although it should be replaced every three to four years or it becomes woody and unproductive. To harvest your own sage leaves, cut the plant down, leaving 4 inches above the ground, then strip and dry the leaves for future medicinal or culinary use. For a homebrewed sage tea, use 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried leaves per cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Use this infusion as a gargle for sore throat or as a mouthwash for gingivitis. You can also drink up to 3 cups a day to improve digestion and help regulate blood sugar. (Remember that people with diabetes must be under a doctor's care and should consult their doctor before taking medicinal amounts of any herb.) Drinking sage infusions could also help reduce wetness if you perspire a lot. Very few side effects have been reported from the consumption of sage leaves; however, those using more concentrated forms of this herb, such as tea or extracts, may experience inflammation of the lips and lining of the mouth. This inflammatory response is probably due to a toxic chemical in sage called thujone. In very large amounts, thujone has been shown to cause convulsions. Concentrated sage oil is toxic and its use should be restricted to aromatherapy. Sage has traditionally been used to promote menstruation, and there are some studies that indicate it may indeed help stimulate uterine contractions; pregnant women should not consume highly concentrated forms of sage, although using it as a culinary spice has not been shown to have this effect.

RELIEF FROM HEADACHES



Researchers enrolled 42 migraine patients to receive either 100 mg of CoQ10 three times each day, or a placebo. For one month all of the subjects received the placebo. Then, for the next three months, 21 received CoQ10 daily, while 21 received placebo. Subjects agreed to not use any other methods to prevent migraines during the study period. The results were dramatic. Researchers found that migraine frequency, total days with migraine, and total days with nausea were all significantly reduced in the CoQ10 group, compared to placebo. Overall, the incidence of migraines was almost cut in half in the CoQ10 group, while the reduction of migraines in the placebo group was less than 15 percent.
